More water please

Water is one of our most precious resources and it is critical to our survival on earth.  I believe that water is the healthiest liquid that a person can drink.  Thankfully, many of us live in conditions where access to pure clean fresh drinking water is plentiful.  With that being said, however….why is it that every time I go to a fast food restaurant and choose to drink water with my meal, they give me a tiny plastic cup as if I am 3 years old?

I have given this some serious (and not so serious) consideration and here are some potential answers to this question:

1) Since I am drinking water and not a sweetened and/or caffeinated fountain beverage, they figure I will need less liquid to adequately hydrate myself?  Haha….might be true, but I doubt this is the answer.

2) Since I am technically not paying for the free water cup, they want to save money by giving me a smaller one?  This seems reasonable, but after further investigation, I discovered that the difference between a 10 ounce cup and a 20 ounce cup is less than one half cent.  Yes, I googled it and this is not justified.

3) Since I am refraining from the fizzy sugar-water that delivers such high profit margins, they want me to hang my head in shame every time I go back to refill my tiny little sippy cup?  Perhaps this could be the most likely answer?

Whatever the case may be, it is annoying.  I’m a patron – just like anyone else – and if I want to drink water with my meal, please allow me to maintain some dignity.  The cup you are giving me, after adding ice, is good for a sip or two.  Trust me….I’m not ordering water because I want the extra exercise of walking over to re-fill my cup 12 times.  I just want a nice tall glass of water.  Is that too much to ask?
