I have been on the sidelines for years….watching, hearing, and reading various reports about the benefits of eating a gluten-free diet. I finally decided to try it and have been doing it consistently for the past month. Judging by how much of the food at markets and restaurants these days is labeled “GF”, it’s obvious that I am late to the gluten-free party. The primary reason I hesitated to try it was simple. I viewed gluten-free as yet another version of a low-carb diet in disguise. Well I’m here to report that I was wrong….potentially very wrong.

Water is one of our most precious resources and it is critical to our survival on earth. I believe that water is the healthiest liquid that a person can drink. Thankfully, many of us live in conditions where access to pure clean fresh drinking water is plentiful. If you live in the United States, there is no doubt that you have seen the seemingly never-ending rotation of 1-800-BAD-DRUG commercials on television. These advertisements claim that you may be entitled to financial compensation if you experienced a serious adverse event as a result of taking a pharmaceutical product.
There is so much talk about managed care these days and how every American citizen needs to have a health plan. It is a rather complex and controversial topic. But amidst all of this talk, are we really focused on true “health plans”? What is the definition of a health plan anyway? Is it a product of an insurance company that is ultimately responsible for your well-being? At the end of the day, aren’t you the one managing your care? Shouldn’t your true health plan be a set of guidelines that you follow to keep yourself healthy? Managed care, as we know it, would be a far less controversial topic if all Americans had an established health plan that guided their actions and behavior.
Anyone notice the latest Burger King ad slogan? “TASTE IS KING”
Not to worry, this is not an article to bash the menu items at Burger King, namely their deliciously inspired Bacon Sundae pictured above. No…that would just be too easy and…well, boring.
I’d like to take this opportunity to examine the actual three-word slogan, TASTE IS KING, and propose that it potentially represents the mindset responsible for our declining health in America. Continue reading
